FAQ
- How do I use Osaport?
-
Go to the Getting Started page to see how you can create an account and start chatting live with your web site's visitors.
- Do I need to install anything on my web site?
-
There is a small piece of JavaScript code you need to include on your web pages, similar to the code snippet that you would copy and paste for Google Analytics. This script will display the "Chat Now" icon that users can click to request a chat. Nothing else needs to be installed on your web site. The Osaport chat system runs on our own servers.
Go to the Channels page in your Control Panel to get the code snippet you need to paste into your web pages.
- Do I need any special software to use Osaport?
-
No. Both the Switchboard and the Chat programs are completely browser-based. They work in all major browsers, including Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome. The sound features in the Switchboard (i.e., rings to to notify you when someone requests a chat) require Flash.
- Why don't chats work when I try to start one with myself?
-
If you try to start a chat with yourself on the same computer that's monitoring the Switchboard, the chat windows will behave strangely. The server can't tell the difference between the two chat windows when they come from the same computer and the same browser.
The easiest way to test chats is to use two different browsers (e.g., Internet Explorer to monitor the Switchboard and Firefox to request a chat). Another option is to use two different computers.
- How can I monitor chat requests on multiple domains?
-
You can add domains to your account if you subscribe to one of our premium plans. When you open your Switchboard, it will list all of the channels you're monitoring and their respective domains.
- Can I have multiple operators monitoring my channels?
-
Yes. If you subscribe to a premium plan, you can create operators and assign them to channels.
- Can I monitor a subset of my channels instead of all of them?
-
As the owner of the account, the easiest way to limit the channels you're monitoring is to create a separate operator account and assign it to the channels you want, then log in as the operator to monitor the Switchboard.
- Can I change how the chat window looks?
-
The option to apply custom styles to the chat window is coming soon.
